Montrose Bag Company is a family-run bag manufacturer based in Montrose, UK. Established in 1789, the original company served the local fishing industry, hand manufacturing ropes and hand-sewn sails that could withstand the harsh weather out at sea. As the Scottish fishing fleet diminished, the parent company – Montrose Rope and Sail Ltd – has continuously innovated to survive. 

Today, our highly skilled manufacturing specialists produce our all-weather travel bags, rucksacks and accessories, which are designed, developed and manufactured all under the one roof. Our small team of 20 is based in our workshop in Montrose. Our original company was based here and we enjoy working within our local area in North East Scotland. The company has been in the Paton family since the early 1900s and first started to manufacture bags in the 1980s.
