When I played with wooden blocks as a child, I loved the experience of fitting them back into the box. And when I look at a drawing that I made of the Easter Bunny, I can see that my effort mainly went into drawing an enormous pile of eggs neatly arranged on his cart. There is a collection of meticulous drawings on graph paper, made during secondary school lessons that failed to capture my full attention. Illustrations of a lifelong fascination for abstract patterns.

I am a Dutch visual artist who weaves. I love to experiment with geometric abstract compositions and loom weaving techniques. I am most happy when the combination of the traditional craft of weaving and my contemporary signature style results in new, exciting images.

I originally trained as an industrial design engineer. Being a problem-solving designer working in complex business contexts didn’t suit me, though, so I pursued a career in research and teaching instead. In parallel, as a graphic designer and visual artist, I managed to be creative with pattern in serious yet more artistic and autonomous ways.
