I’m a maker of heirloom mohair teddy bears, for young and old alike. I design and hand-craft traditionally made, ‘old style’ teddy bears from my home studio in the French Pyrenees in South West France

Each bear is made using the same natural materials and techniques that have been used by bear makers for over 120 years. Mohair ‘fur’ fabric, hand-blown glass eyes, cotter pin joints and sheep’s wool are the elements commonly found on my worktable. It’s hard to overstate the role these materials play in my creative practice – their qualities, character and heritage guide my hands and heart as I bring my bears to life.

The mohair fabric is sourced from Germany, from the specialised mill that directly supplies the world-famous Steiff bears. The greenSteiff Schulte stamp on the selvedge of a new bolt of fabric reminds me that I am working with a prestige material, steeped in a rich history. Unlike modern synthetic fur fabrics, mohair ages with grace and dignity. I am deeply inspired by the longevity of the very first mohair bears. It is my hope that each of my bears will be loved and cherished for many years to come.
